Craft: Easter Bunny Table Runner

I needed a runner for my Easter table, this is what I came up with.

Hare by Durer
1) I found a picture of a rabbit I liked and I printed it.

Then I collected the supplies I'd need:
Some transfer paper
Iron and wooden board
Ink jet printer
Some muslin the size you'd like to make your runner.
Trim enough to go around your runner.
Silk flowers
Either a print out of the bonnets I did or decorative paper.
Scissors
Glue stick
Fabric glue

Transfer Paper
2) Then I made some bonnets that would fit my rabbit.

3) I placed each bonnet on my rabbits head and photo copied it
onto the transfer paper. Following the transfer paper instructions
I ironed it onto my muslin.

4) I laid out two trims in order to see which would work best.

5) Then I played around with different embellishments and decided on silk flowers.

6) I stitched on my chosen trim.

7) I added the silk flowers with a little fabric glue.

Now I'm ready for Easter Dinner.

Marie Antoinette's paper shoes

If you saw my last blog you would have seen
Isabella de Borchgrave paper clothing and shoes.
They were very inspiring so I decided my
next craft should be some paper shoes.

Supplies you'll need:
 One sheet of card stock
Two sheets of decorative paper
Print of pattern
Glue stick
Scissors

Marie Antoinette's paper shoe pattern

1) Cut out pattern pieces.

 and as shown above.

3) Fold and clip edges as shown on pattern.

4) Glue the tops turned back and clipped edge between the the two sole pieces.
 Leave the heel area unglued.

4) Then glue the heel piece together so that the two decorative
pieces cover the card stock piece and clip edge.
5) Glue the heel piece in-between the two sole pieces

 6) Roll the heal piece around a pencil
then glue it making into a tight circle.
Bend the clipped part of the heal over top of each other
and glue it to bottom of the shoe.

7) Fold the shoes at the two fold points and decorate.

These cute little shoes make great place card holders.

Isabella de Borchgrave: Paper clothing

A couple of months ago I went to an art exhibit at the Bellevue Arts Museum in Bellevue, WA . I wanted to see the work of Isabella de Borchgrave.

She is an artist who transforms paper into clothing. She was formally trained in painting and drawing at the Centre des Arts Decoratifs and the Royal Academy of Fine arts in Brussels. She has produced four major collections in the last twenty years.

She starts with a number of papers, white pattern paper, craft paper, and some tissues. She then paints it, crumples it, tears it, and glues it. Every year she uses over 2.5 miles of paper. She and her assistants have a library of over 4,000 books which they use to extensively research each project.

I think I've found my dream job!

If you ever see a show of hers come through your area it's definitely worth seeing.

In my Studio: Topiary Doll

What's up in my studio? Another doll. I'm getting ready for a big sale in Seattle on May 9th. It's a fundraiser for Coyote Arts a wonderful organization that raises money to pay art teachers to teach low income kids art.
