Happy Thanksgiving

I am so thankful for all of you that follow my blog. I love to have a place to share the things I find along the path of my life. I’m not sure why sharing means so much to me, but I have always done it. Before computers I wrote many letters and sent pictures and articles. I may have learned from the women in my family because they all do the same thing.

Another reason I am so thankful for you is when I mentioned my divorce I received many emails and posts giving me love and support.

Thank you all for your kindness and your interest in my blog. I am one very thankful person. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Four and Twenty Black Birds Baked in a Pie

Thanksgiving is coming very quickly and my youngest son can't come home so today I sent him a care package.

I like my care packages to have a sense of humor and a theme. This year I wanted to send a pie. So after thinking about it I came up with Four and Twenty Black Birds Baked in a Pie.

I made 24 black bird sugar cookies.

I added Gummy Cherries

Then I added a fondant pie crust.

Four and Twenty Black Birds Baked in a Pie
is on it's way to Chicago for Thanksgiving.

Angry Bird Cookies

I work with very special kids who love Angry Bird. I decided while I was making a package for my son I'd make them some cookies for Angry Bird Friday.

Divorce is Like an Onion

Divorce is Like an Onion

As you cut each layer away another one presents it’s self and each one creates more tears.
For me the first layer was my decision to ask for a divorce.
The second was how it would affect my husband.
Then how it affected my boys.
Then the possible loss of my husbands family.
The loss of family events. (I am determined to remain friends so we can someday continue them.)
The loss of going out as a couple with friends.
My home has to be sold which is a large loss for me for many reasons.
The loss of my neighbors.
The things you liked to do as a couple.
You have to let go of and divide your belongings.

The layers seem to never end. The tears seem to never end. I had no idea how hard divorce could be. And so many people deal with it in our country everyday.

If you know someone going through a divorce reach out. Ask them to do something like go to a movie or make them dinner. Just listen to them.

I am so lucky because I have many supportive friends who I love very much. I don’t think I could do this without them.

Really Fun Lights You Can Make

Here are some fun lights I found at Pearl Buttons in Anacortes WA.

These single light bulbs were enhanced by
hanging pearls, glass beads, and shells off of a steel ring at the top.
White butterflies were wired onto the beads and white ribbons tied into bows to finish them off.

This drum light was covered in soft white feathers and had crystals hanging from the bottom.

These single bulb lights had tiny cages around them.
Doilies where then hung off of the cages.

A Large Bump in the Road: Divorce

I've been trying to keep my blog uplifting, one that gives you a break in your day and might even make you smile.  But I am rethinking that. If you’re a follower of my blog you might have thought  this woman has a charmed life.  I have had one in many ways. I have gotten to travel many wonderful places this year and experience many great things. But there is a darker side to my life right now and I feel if I don’t share it with you, my readers, it wouldn't be fair because no ones life is without problems and sadness.

This year has been a sad one for me because my husband of 28 years and I are splitting up. We have been together since I was 23 years old and now I’m 54. Besides feeling sad I feel scared.I have so many questions on how my new life will turn out. Will I get too lonely? Will I have enough money? to name just a couple. It’s truly scary to think of surviving without someone you have lived with for so long.

I guess what I want my readers to know is anyone can make their life look perfect on a blog or Face book. So never get discouraged when your life doesn't live up to the hype. Enjoy each and every calm and simple moment.   They are the true blessings of life.

So forgive me if my blog is simpler and not as often for a while as I have a lot to work out.
