Old Mirrors

I’ve been working on fixing up a house on a very tight budget. In the bathroom I found two mirrors both with damage from moisture along their edges.

I took the mirrors to see what it would cost to replace them. The estimate was above what I could afford and seller told me that there was no way to fix the damage. So, I thought about it and came up with this idea. I love how the mirrors turned out! At first, it just looks like the mirrors are damaged but then you notice a face looking back at you and it makes you smile.

Here’s how I did it: first, you sand down the damaged area until you get to the clear glass and dust off the dirt. Then, cut out some pictures from an old book and then glue them on the backside of the mirror. To do this paint the front of the image with Weldbond glue, place the images against the glass. When the images dry paint the back side of the images with an acrylic sealer to seal them and prevent further damage.

The Hornby Island Quilt show

Hornby is a small island in the Canadian Gulf Islands.
I am very lucky because I have an Aunt and Uncle who live on Hornby and  I was blessed because they let me come and stay with them every summer as a child. As a result I grew up knowing many people on the Island. It is full of wonderful artists. My uncle is a well known potter in Canada and my Aunt is an award winning quilter. They live on a beautiful farm nestled in between two wonderful beaches. Here is where the island holds a quilt exhibit every year. I was lucky to be there this year to take some photos that I can share with you.

Besides the beautiful quilts, the show is a wonderful day of music and tea.

Sound of Music

At this time of the year, when the sun is shining and the days are long, I just feel like dancing. What better song than "The Sound of Music" to bring back wonderful childhood memories and make you feel like dancing. Have a great weekend.

Next Stop on our Virtual World Tour

The Musée d'Orsay in Paris is one of my favorite Museums in the world. The collection is in an old train station and, in my opinion, it has the most Masterpieces per square foot. I prefer to start on level five where there is a great impressionist collection. You can explore the Museum by doing this wonderful virtual tour.

Traditions

I love traditions, I have made as many as I can possibly fit into a year. One of my family’s favorites is the Lynden Fair.

We usually go on a hot summer day when all the colors are so vivid, the wonderful smells of the food stands wafts through the air, and the joy of the Fair is infectious.

It’s fun to look at everyone’s hobbies and see the kids so proud of their animals. I even enjoy all the political booths and the crazy things the vendors sell.

We love to eat our dinner at the Fair by each picking a booth of our favorite food then sitting in a crowed room people watching. Of course, we need to top the evening off with a fresh caramel apple.

This year we entered Lily the Cake in the cake decorating contest and she won first place which made the Fair even that much more fun.

The Lynden Fair

Today Lily the Cake was entered into “The Lynden Fair” cake baking contest.

She put on her best dress and headed out.

On the way she stopped to see a cow.

Then, while walking down the road Lily got a whiff of some wonderful fair food. She decided to eat something before having to stand still for a week.

Just before checking in she noticed some beautiful flowers and took the chance to get her photo taken.

Now she’s there for all to see in her beautiful flower dress.

                                                                  See you at the Fair.

A Wedding

Today I’m off to a wedding and I love weddings! What is more important in the world than love? Love can come from so many different places and be expressed in so many different ways.

I am blessed in my life because I have so many people to love and who love me back. I feel that you should always let your family and friends know you love them. I do this by taking the time to say “I love you” and give them a hug or a kiss. Life is too short not to say I love you every chance you get.

And just remember followers: I love you.

The Art of the vegetable Garden

In Paris there’s a Park called Bagatelle, with wonderful gardens of all kinds. At has a beautiful rose garden which brings in all the award winning roses from around the world.

It also has beautiful little buildings, creeks and grottos.

My favorite is the vegetable garden. It is a work of art with apple trees espaliered into tiny fences that frame the colors and textures of the vegetables which are laid out to make a living painting.

If you are in Paris make an effort to see this park it’s a trip out side the city, but totally worth it.
